President Joseph Biden has decided to officially drop out of the 2024 Presidential Race and has formally endorsed his running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris. While no candidate has received the official nomination from the Democratic Delegates, the Vice President seems to be the front-runner at this point. But the race is wide open due to the lateness of President Biden's decision. At this stage of the race, while many across the country are saying that with Vice President Harris on the ticket, the people voted for her as well as President Biden. This is honestly not the case as President Biden is on the ticket as a sole candidate until the convention as he is allowed to drop the Vice President from the ticket before receiving the nomination. The nomination is what makes both the Presidential and Vice Presidential Nominees official.

Other high-profile players could be thrust into the national spotlight before the convention begins or at the convention itself. Vice President Harris will likely have her staff working hard over these next few weeks to secure the delegates she needs to secure her nomination. To do just that, she will need to obtain 1,990 delegates of the 3,979 pledged delegates. To make this a sure thing, Vice President Harris will have to receive verbal word from delegates before the Democratic National Convention on August 19th but that isn't even a secure option. A "Dark Horse" candidate could enter the race on the floor of the convention and throw a wrench into the process. This would be unprecedented but then again, the announcement made today by President Biden was also unprecedented. Candidates like Governor Shapiro (D) from Pennsylvania and Governor Newsom (D) from California. While Governor Shapiro is a first-term Governor, he is considered a rising star in Pennsylvania politics. Having either of these two politicians as the front-runner or a running mate would help the Democrats to gain an upper hand after losing their Presidential Contender.

Vice President will have the upper hand going into the convention as her polling numbers will soar due to this announcement but that will most likely only last for the next two weeks. She will have to show that she is truly trying to earn those delegate votes upon entering the Democratic National Convention. This is the only way she can obtain the needed delegates to become the official Democratic Nominee. Until then she will ride a wave of popularity driven by President Biden's backing out of the race. Now it will be a matter of watching as each day passes and seeing what transpires leading up to the Democratic National Convention. If Vice President Harris can manage to say very little before the convention and do most of the work behind the scenes, she will have a chance at securing the nomination. But if she has too much face-to-face time with the press, it could squelch her chances at becoming the Presidential Nominee. It will be interesting to see how things turn out and who else endorses Vice President Harris or any other possible candidates before the convention begins in August.
